The Longines FEI European Show Jumping Championships starts at Casas Novas
The horses have arrived at the Casas Novas Equestrian Centre in A Coruña, which is prepared to host one of the most important competitions on the European circuit.
Everything is set at the Casas Novas Equestrian Centre for the first day of the Longines FEI Jumping European Championship, taking place Wednesday July 16th to Sunday July 20th, at this renowned Galician venue, a landmark in international equestrian sport.
On Tuesday, all 90 registered horses underwent the veterinary inspection. After completing the inspection, the horses and riders took the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the main arena at Casas Novas, which is now ready to welcome the best horses and riders in Europe.
Following this process, a total of 89 athletes will compete for European gold: 18 will participate as individuals, while the rest will be part of 18 national teams. This afternoon, the draw for the order of go was held, with Portugal set to be the first nation on course, leading off the 89 pairs competing in this opening day.
The championship kicks off this Wednesday July 16th at 15.00 with the Checkpoint Trophy, a speed and handiness competition featuring jumps between 1.50m and 1.55m. The results of this class are crucial, as they form the basis for scoring in the following days, both in the individual and team standings. It is, therefore, a key first test that could make the difference in the race for the European podium.
Additionally, as part of the Checkpoint Trophy, the NH Collection Additional Trophy will be awarded to the highest-placed Spanish rider, celebrating national talent at this prestigious continental event.
Spectators attending the opening day will enjoy performances from the most prominent athletes of the moment, promising top-level competitions.
